Textizen began as a 2012 Code for America project in Philadelphia, using text messaging to open public participation to anyone with a cell phone. Since then, it has helped reduce air pollution in Philadelphia, improve school services in Chicago, ensure Vallejans have a say in city budgeting, and more.

Users invite feedback via public prompts, or import a list of existing numbers. They can then send automated surveys and messages to stay connected with the click of a button, rather than making 10 or 1000 phone calls. Textizen is improving efficiency and openness across a wide variety of sectors, including health & human services, public participation, transit, research, and political outreach.
